In celebration of World Singing Day, our audio content team (Helen & Euan) have put together this blog composed of songs to sing your heart out to! Enjoy!
Helen:
Remember that line in Sliding Doors when John Hannah’s character theorises that everybody’s born knowing all the Beatles lyrics instinctively? Well I can confirm this to be the case as even my 7 year old seems to know them whenever a Beatles track comes on in the car!
Euan:
This can only be sung properly when driving down the motorway, preferably with a little bit of sun. In my head I’m a grizzled Bruce Springsteen character singing about the optimism of youth, in reality I’m running late from a meeting and drinking a motorway service station coffee.
Helen:
Are we allowing football anthems into this list? If so then it doesn’t get any better then hearing Anfield sing “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Even if you’re not a Liverpool fan – goosebumps every time.
Euan:
No, we’re not allowed football anthems like that one. Let’s go with a cooler anthem. It’s another one for the car, my whole family know ALL the words and it’s appeal has endured for over a decade.
Helen:
I dare you not to attempt the falsetto and mime-play the piano. I double dare you.
Euan:
Same era as Aha, but different vibe, it’s tricky to nail both the female lead and male accompaniment, you need to bring the vulnerability and the power to your vocals but obviously we can all manage it (in our heads).
Helen:
Wayne’s World was possibly my favourite movie when I was 12 and this has got to be one of the greatest sing-a-longs in movie history!
Euan:
The best type of sing-a-long is when you slightly mumble your way through the verses and then go for the chorus. This is one of those songs. For bonus points it’s got a lot of whoo-oo bits which are fun.
Helen:
I’ve seen James twice at festivals. The first time they refused to play Sit Down and you can imagine how that went down with a field full of revellers chanting “play the hit.” The second time they didn’t make the same mistake again – and the greatest ever sing-a-long of my life ensued!
Euan:
Right band, wrong song. This James track is epic to sing-a-long, especially as there’s a lot of wailing involved.
