What comes to mind when you hear “small business?” Perhaps it’s your local coffee shop, the family-owned restaurant where you always get your favourite dish (mine is Dragon Castle on Walworth Road, London, a legendary Chinese), or the boutique down the street that has the perfect gift for every occasion.

Whatever it is, small businesses are an integral and crucial part of our lives. They give us a sense of community and provide us with goods and services that we can’t find anywhere else.

This Saturday, November 24th, is Small Business Saturday. This annual event was created to encourage people to support small businesses and to highlight the importance of shopping local.  Here are AVC Immedia’s three reasons why you should participate in Small Business Saturday:

  1. Personal Connection: When you shop at a small business, you are supporting somebody’s dream. You are helping to create jobs and build strong communities. When you buy from a big box store, on the other hand, your money goes to anonymous shareholders. Shopping small means that you’re investing in your community.
  1. Expertise: Small businesses offer a level of expertise that you can’t find at a big box store. The owners and employees of small businesses are passionate about what they do, and they have a deep knowledge of their products and services. They can help you find exactly what you’re looking for and give you personalised service that you won’t find anywhere else.
  1. Targeted Marketing: Small businesses know their customers well and they strive to meet their needs. They are often able to offer targeted discounts and promotions that big box stores can’t match. When you shop small, you can be sure that your hard-earned cash is going towards products and services that you need and want.

This Small Business Saturday take time to support the businesses that make your community unique. Shop small and help make a difference!
