Settling in to the Commercial team at AVC Immedia

Hello, I’m Michelle Allan and I’m the Sales Executive for AVC Immedia!

Having been with AVC Immedia for a little over 4 months now, I feel I have settled in well and am very much part of the commercial team.  My focus in the Sales role is to bring new business to the company along with continuing to build on the relationships of existing and lapsed clients.

"People buy from people, so the rapport is much more important than the sale itself."

As a Salesperson my ideal is to build trust with potential and existing clients, and mould that relationship so that we both have a great understanding of each other’s businesses and what we can do to help each other moving forward. ‘People buy from people’, so the rapport is much more important than the sale itself, because if the rapport is there, clients will feel confident in the product/service you are providing and will therefore recommend you and come back to you, time and time again.

However, I did not start my working life in sales, I qualified in Graphic Design and my dream to begin with was to be a designer or illustrator. However as I worked part time at the Airport(as a Security Guard) while studying, my career took a different turn towards travel and customer service. Being at the airport opened up opportunities for me and after graduating I went onto work full time with KLM as a Senior Customer Service Agent and then in time to be Senior Cabin Crew with British Airways.

"During my time with BA I travelled and spent time in some amazing places and met the most interesting people. No day was ever the same and I really enjoyed the diversity the role provided."

Eventually when I decided to hang up my wings and have a more settled routine, I went into a Sales role for Developers and sold new build properties. This was a great fit for me as I enjoyed the variety of new people I encountered and discovered I got a real buzz from selling, but more importantly I enjoyed helping people achieve their goal in buying their dream home.

After 16yrs of selling property, I decided to diversify my career route again and went onto work for the local regional newspapers at Aberdeen Journals where I became very successful in Property Advertising. This role enabled me to bring some of my Graphic design skills back into use, while I built my reputation in sales within the brand and built up a valuable client base, most of whom I had worked alongside during my housebuilder days. I organised their marketing schedules and helped them to drive traffic to their business through advertising on the correct platforms.

From there I wanted to challenge myself more and moved onto head up the business section and started to progress the B2B advertising department. Building up a different client base was the most exciting part, as meeting and connecting with new people is what I do best.

"Creativity, meeting new people and sales are in my blood and so my role at AVC Immedia and me go hand in hand!"

I was then approached to join a local hotel group in Aberdeen as a recommendation from a client of mine, as their Corporate Business Development Manager. I jumped at the opportunity, and soon was liaising and building up a strong corporate client base for the hotels, along with organising the marketing for the group. I organised networking events and client entertainment evenings, which led to many new business relationships.

Due to factors out of my control, i.e the pandemic, my career in hospitality came to an end and I was lucky to make my way to AVC Immedia. Media sales is my happy place, as it allows our creative content and solutions to bring our clients in front of their target audiences in a more engaging and proactive way. We bring life to businesses through our visual and audio content and allow them to be seen!

Creativity, meeting new people and sales are in my blood and so my role at AVC Immedia and me go hand in hand!
