Eurovision is that guilty pleasure that everyone has a secret fondness for! With the final of the 2022 contest being just around the corner, here are the AVC Immedia Team’s favourite memories of the unadulterated joy that Eurovision is!

Sophie Gellender - Marketing Executive

Eurovision is just so iconic, I mean the fact we even do Eurovision parties over here says it all! I adore it each year! Although we probably have no chance of ever winning it again anytime soon I still enjoy the mad stuff some countries can come up with and some genius acts too!

The one performance that stood out to me for being completely mad and very lively (but that’s all that’s great about Eurovision right!?) was Ukraine’s 2007 entry…

Verka Serduchka – Dancing Lasha Tumbai

Helen Warner - Client & Content Manager

I love everything about Eurovision – the complete over-the-top-nature of it all, the terrible presenters and Graham Norton at his snarkiest!  The song that stands out for me has got to be Lordi’s Hard Rock Hallelujah.  I remember being at a bar in London where they were playing it and it definitely got the biggest cheers of the night!

Chris Kinch - IT & Network Manager

I would agree with Helen with Lordi & hard rock hallelujah, also loved Latvia’s Pirates of the sea – Wolves of the sea (Alestorm covered it so just have to mention it). For me you have to go back to the 2010’s for the best of Eurovision in recent years.

Earliest memory for me with Eurovision is mid 2000’s when I was allowed to stay up to see the contest but sent to bed before the results so sneaked to my parents room too see the results back in the days where the countries phoned in and read out all their results not just the top 3…and don’t forget to raise your glass too the man who was, and always will be, MR EUROVISION… Terry Wogan!

Ross Penney - CEO

I agree about Terry Wogan, although Graham Norton is also brilliant and gets away with saying things Terry wouldn’t have dreamed of!

I dimly remember Abba with Waterloo. For some reason the Israeli entry A-ban-i-bi sticks in my mind, although I can’t remember who did it!

There was a time Ireland won twice in a row and they had to enter a rubbish song the following year to be sure they didn’t win as they couldn’t afford it! 😊

Izhar Cohen & Alphabeta – A-ba-ni-bi

Michaela Power – Radio Presenter

Personally, I think it all went a bit down hill after Brotherhood of Man, Save Your Kisses for Me.

John Trevorrow - Finance Director

It’s hard to choose a favourite but I reckon either Euphoria by Loreen in 2012 or Toy by Netta in 2018, which is the year me and my daughter, Charlotte, went to see it live 😀

Netta – Toy

Euan McMorrow - Content Director

At the risk of showing my age – Bucks Fizz winning – I watched it with my mum and dad – my mum was very critical of their live singing! I haven’t seen many since!

Oh and Conchita Wurtz – I can’t remember anything about the song but I remember the image – that’s what Eurovision is all about isn’t it?

Bucks Fizz – Making Your Mind Up
