Today, 9th of May, is Europe Day.
Europe isn’t a land overseas for us at AVC Immedia, it’s at the heart of who we are.
We have talented colleagues from all over the continent and we work with partners such as Subway, JD and IKEA in many European countries.
With audiences hearing so much of our output around Europe, each week I immerse myself in the music that’s loved in many of the countries. I’ve come to realise that what’s true for the people of Europe holds true for the music too.
WE’RE MORE ALIKE THAN DIFFERENT
There’s a mass of artists whose music does well all across Europe. When The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, Justin Bieber and many others release new tracks they do well in every European country.
EVERY COUNTRY BRINGS SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Swedish has its dance producers, Ireland has its singer/songwriters and the Netherlands has its Afrobeats stars. From Norway’s Sigrid to France’s Aya Nakamura, every country contributes to make the whole European music scene flourish.
SOME THINGS DON’T TRAVEL SO WELL
For all that joins us, there are some musical styles that only flourish in their home country. German rap isn’t heard very much beyond its borders, this is probably a good thing! Only Sweden goes mad for the artists who appear on their various TV talent shows, the rest of us, not so much. Finnish metal bands are massive stars in Finland but unknowns elsewhere. The dance music scene in Poland is one of its best kept secrets.
EUROPE LOVES THE BRITISH
We might struggle to get votes in the Eurovision Song Contest, but British artists are loved on the continent. It’s not just the big hitters like Adele and Dua Lipa. You’ll find James Arthur, Conor Maynard and Tom Gregory doing much better in Europe than they do in the UK. At the moment, KSI, Dave and Wes Nelson are all building up a following that is going to see them be huge across the continent too.
Our Business Support team and me spend a lot of time talking to people across Europe, and it makes our work life richer and more diverse. We also get jealous of the weather in the Mediterranean and the long holidays in Northern Europe, but that’s another story.
So, to all our clients across Europe, from Ireland in the west to Romania in the east, and from the north of Sweden to the south of Sicily
from all of us at AVC Immedia – Happy Europe Day.
